Are the Holidays Already Here?

We are officially just a week out from holidays, and it still hasn’t quite hit me that we’re over halfway through December. That absolutely blows my mind when I sit and think about it, especially considering it just felt like Halloween was here. And Thanksgiving? The fact that it’s 3 weeks in the past is also weird to me. Time can be pretty funny every now and then.

This holidays should be interesting for me and my partner, since we know that my parents are just getting us money and her parents are getting us kitchen appliances and cooking supplies. Other than that, we don’t really expect gifts from anyone else, and I think it’s kind of exciting to be living a minimalistic life with minimalist holidays to back that lifestyle up. The fact that we’re beyond stoked for new cooking things is hilarious to me, if only because it shows how much we’ve grown and aged and realized what matters in the home and what doesn’t.

So, when holiday morning comes around and we have very few cheap moving boxes strewn across the ground, we’ll at least be reminded of what actually matters and how much money was saved this year and not thrown towards pointless items. (Though the lack of those cheap moving boxes all torn up and scattered around will be noticeable in comparison to years past when it was hard to even walk around all the things we had.)

Nonetheless, it’s exciting for us to think about how much we’ve saved and I can put towards my student loans now. And shopping for my parents and her parents has been a breeze for us this year since everyone isn’t asking for much in return. I kinda like it that way, if only because it allows us to focus our time and energy on having fun with loved ones around the holidays instead of stressing about what we’re going to get and what we’re asking for. I think that’s how it should be for all families, but some people get swept up in the bright and shiny new things out there to ask for or gift to others instead of the time spent together they could be focusing on.

So, even though holidays may not be the same this year, I’m looking forward to it eagerly simply because it’s been a stress-free holiday season already. I couldn’t ask for much more than that.
